Joyeux Noël!

This week was very hectic in the French classes, mostly due to my absence on Monday (we didn't get plowed out on my road until Monday midday!!) but we bounced back to sing some carols, make some ornaments, and have a holiday scavenger hunt to celebrate the upcoming break...

As my students know, I am a BIG fan of flash mobs, espcially if they occur overseas and showcase the effect of American influence. In Rome, they had a GREAT one on the 21st and they used the music of "Glee" - which holds a special place in many of my students' hearts, mostly the ones who have Mr. Verdone for music classes.

Without further ado, and in honor of the holidays and the music department's concert last week, I present to you, "Il Flashmob" direct from Roma, Italia... Buona Natalia!

Chasse au Trésor!

Instead of the customary French movie before Holiday break, I decided to put in way too much time and effort to organize a scavenger hunt for French 2 Honors, who will soon learn direction vocabulary. They are gathering clues throughout the school in teams of 2, on 6 different routes to avoid racing or over-competitiveness. Wish them (and me) luck!

Mme Guilbeault a votre prochain indice.

My French 3 class was very proud of themselves after our last unit, because they all put on a "live" cooking show in front of their classmates, with the use of my "state of the art" Fisher Price party kitchenette. They prepared recipes to distribute and props to use during the show, and I was more than impressed with the results. The kids even impressed themselves, mostly because this was the first time they had ever done anything "100 percent in French" for class.

I have included some photos of the students and their party kitchen... the quality of the disposable camera I was using is not stellar, but you get the idea... I have even included a picture of the poor hapless stuffed duck who was brought in by Kingsley to serve as her chicken for "Coq au Vin."

"...et ils grandissent leurs mentons doubles!"

Yes, that interesting quotation (which translates to "and they grow their double chins!") is the brain child of one of my French 2 Honors presentation groups, who put together restaurant scenes in lieu of a test for their current chapter. This class of 12 takes their French studies a bit more seriously than my other sections, so I was reticent to introduce a project like this to them. However, they embraced the concept and execution with good humor and produced excellent and hilarious results. Thanks to one of Ms. Boudreau's Flip camcorders, I was able to capture their comedic gems on film for you. Enjoy! (and forgive the occasional camera shake as I try to control my laughter...)
