"Whatever a man can imagine, other men can make reality..."

...and so reads the Jules Verne quote on the bottom of our bulletin board. World Language Week was a HUGE success last week, and I am very proud of all of my honors sections for envisioning and executing their portions of the classroom. I have included pictures of my freshmen and juniors working diligently in and outside of the classroom - some of the French 3 class volunteered to work at our International Cafe last Thursday, which earned over $100! (Very impressive, considering the snacks went for 50 cents apiece!)

I will post several pictures of the bulletin boards created around the school and list the winners of the contest after they are announced this afternoon!

A few future costume winners...

Here are a few AWESOME costumes from my sophomores... they had better win!
(2 of the most talkative mimes I have ever encountered...)
(This was my favorite. Alex looks like a descendant of William Wallace!)
The bulletin board is coming together. Hopefully all their Jules Verne and Paris visuals will be ready by Friday!

"19th Century Paris" Bulletin Board

French 2 Honors is the class who is focusing their talents and expertise on our bulletin board contest entry, which is "19 Century Paris." The other Honors classes have been creating visual displays on the 2 side walls of the classroom based on famous novels by Jules Verne, who lived in that time period, so my room looks like.... well, a disaster. Here are some action shots of French 2 working hard and LOVING their break from the textbook:

World Language Week!

Next week is World Language Week at the high school, and the department has organized quite a few wonderful activities for a school-wide collaborative. Several faculty members have incorporated international topics into their lesson plans, and many are decorating bulletin boards in their classroom about various cultures, historical events and people. There will be a different country or region's theme each day and it will be reflected in morning announcement trivia, music during passing times, and school lunches.

Here is the schedule for next week:

Monday - ASIAN day
Tuesday - SWEDISH day
Wednesday - FRANCE day, and dress up day! Winners will be chosen for a prize.
Thursday - SPANISH day
Friday - ITALIAN day

During Parent-Teacher conferences on Thursday night from 5:30-8:30, we will be hosting an international café in the main foyer of the high school, featuring ethnic foods made by our students for purchase. We will also have foreign language students serving and working this café, many faces you will recognize from my various videos and pictures on this site.

We hope you will join us for some of this week's events! I am so excited to see the students get involved and invested in the more cultural aspects of the countries they study from day to day!

Look for videos and pictures as I post them during the week! At the top of the post are a couple of good pictures of my classroom, decked out with the flags of several French-speaking countries and regions: France, Québec, Belgium, Martinique, Senegal, Haiti, and French Polynesia.
